The main objective of TRUE SMILE CENTER is to help you eliminate this condition. The treatment to reduce or completely eliminate it will depend on the clinical case of each patient.
Management of temporomandibular disorders at TRUE SMILE CENTER.
- What is the temporomandibular joint?
The TMJ is the joint that joins the jaw to the skull. This union allows us to open and close our mouth when we speak, yawn and/or chew.
TMJ disorders (TMD) are pathologies that we can divide into two main groups:
- Intra-articular: which are those that directly affect the structures that form the joint.
- Extra-articular: these are those that affect the facial muscles, mainly the 4 muscles of chewing, and can even cause painful syndromes.
These disorders can affect and cause headaches, neck pain, ear pain, facial pain, and chewing difficulties.
What are the causes?
TMD are multifactorial, so their approach must be aimed at correcting all possible causes, among which they could be,
- Malocclusion (bad dental position)
- Partial edentulism (missing teeth)
- Orthodontic treatments
- Arthritic diseases
- Bruxism
