Oral or oral pathology is responsible for the identification and treatment of alterations and diseases located in the oral cavity, maxilla, jaw and dental organs (understanding all the structures that make it up), as well as the relationships they have with systemic problems.
Because it is so closely related to Dentistry and is a branch of Pathology, after clinical analysis it uses diagnostic tools such as x-rays, biopsy, staining with microscope analysis, computed axial tomography and laboratory studies.<\/p>\n
Anomalies such as nodules, cysts and irritations are also reasons for visiting an oral pathologist. Lesions of the oral mucosa can present as viral and fungal infections, to name a few, in some cases leading to cancer.<\/p>\n
It is important to mention that many underlying pathologies (high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.) can have consequences in the oral cavity and this is when it is important to be able to carry out an evaluation with an oral pathologist in order to adequately manage each pathology.<\/p>\n
